Work Experience

Administrative Assistant

Assistant to PI for Along the Chaparral, Federal Grant, U.S Dpt. Of Veterans Affairs, UCR (Winter 2019 – Present)

Accomplishments: Financial assistant. Maintained communication with grant’s office and PA office at UCR to process payments and facilitate communication between CHASS faculty, RUSD teachers, students from various disciplines and administration. Assisted PI in organization and management of grant.

Sponsor Projects Administration (SPA), La Sierra University  (2014-Present)

 Accomplishments: Under PI supervision I applied and received the Edison Scholars Scholarship four years in a row, resulting in $105,000 in scholarship monies for underrepresent STEM majors. Brought together the STEM Chairs committee and maintained communication. Participated in the pre-award process of the 2.6 million federal Title V Grant for Hispanic serving institutions (HSI) awarded to La Sierra and was active in the post award execution by maintaining communication between the PI, SPA and Administration. Created an organized filing system and kept track of all sponsored projects at the University.


Teaching

TA position at Creative Writing & Writing for the Performing Arts, UCR (Fall 2020 – Spring 2020)

Description: Teaching Creative Writing to Undergraduate Students

Accomplishments: implemented decolonial practices in the classroom, all the readings presented in class were written by writer’s of color, LGBTQI and marginalized communities.


Executive Assistant

Chemistry Department, La Sierra University (2014-Present)

Description: Facilitated communication between faculty and students; communicated with administration offices to complete contracts, check requests, expense reports and travel arrangements. assisted and advice to students in person, via email and phone to aid in the registration process. Keep department website updated. Advertising courses, organizing events.

Summer Program, La Sierra University (2014-Present)       

Accomplishments: Guided and advised students through the registration process, provided breakfast and lunch to 200 students, faculty and staff during the Summer quarter.

ESL and World Languages Department, La Sierra University (2011-2014)

Accomplishments: Assisted chair in the Advanced Spanish Composition courses, and in the Beginning Spanish courses where I lead class with conversational activities etc.

Description: Trained tutors for Spanish labs and set up lab schedules. Scheduled, proctored and graded Spanish Placement tests for students and Spanish tutors. Advertised for the department through posters and informational booklets.    

Copy Editor

“Criterion” the Student News Magazine of La Sierra University (2014-2015)

Ensured the newspaper followed the APA Manual of Style. Reviewed articles for correct grammar and diction before publishing. Assisted and trained writers and worked with Editor-in-Chief and section editors to enforce fixed content deadlines and content integrity.         

Leadership & Volunteer Experience


Black Light Arts Collective, BLAC (Jan 2020 – present) https://www.blacklightartscollective.com/  

Description: Poetry and Literary Liason for a collective of black and POC artists that showcase and organize community events that center and serve creatives of the queer and straight Black diaspora  Accomplishments: Poetry Workshop host and organizer. Recruited faculty and established writers for workshops. Created advertisement for social media. Poetry Editor and layout Editor for The Black Imaginarium Zine.

Poetry Judge for The Roadrunner Review at La Sierra (January 2021) Reading poetry submission to select one winner to publish and award $100.

Writer’s Resist, PEN America at UCR (Winter 2018 – 2020 ) Organized and hosted Writer’s Resist reading, handled marketing and advertisement in and off campus. 

 Board of Trustees for Onward Foundation (Jan. 2018-Present) International non-profit Organization. Contribute in the decision making of the organization and provide copy editing services.

Tomas Rivera Book Prize (Jan. 2020) Judging/reading Committee, read/reviewed and approved applicant’s manuscripts

Take Back the Night (May 2017) Project manager of the event/march to end violence against women.    

 Riverside Latino Network (April 5, 2017) Attended Latina Mixer to connect with influential Latina Leaders in the Inland Empire.
